Conductor
Björn Bus
Björn Bus was born in 1980 in Brunssum, in the southern part of the Netherlands, where his musical roots are deeply embedded.
In 2004, he graduated with honors from the conservatory in Groningen with a bachelor’s degree in conducting, studying under Alex Schillings. The same year, he devoted himself to his studies as a trombonist with Harrie Ries at the conservatory in Maastricht. In 2005 and 2006, he pursued baroque trombone studies with Wim Becu at the Musikhochschule in Aachen. Björn Bus completed his master’s degree in conducting, also with honors, in 2010 under the guidance of internationally renowned conductor Jan Cober at the conservatory in Maastricht.
However, his education did not stop there. He participated in numerous masterclasses in conducting, working with renowned personalities in the field. His talent quickly gained recognition, and his participation in prestigious conducting competitions brought him further acclaim. In 2005, he placed second at the European Brass Band Association (EBBA) competition in Groningen. At the 2009 World Music Contest (WMC) in Kerkrade, he won the bronze baton while collaborating with the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy.
Currently, Björn Bus serves as the General Artistic Manager of the World Music Contest (WMC) in Kerkrade. He also conducts several orchestras, including the Orchestra of the Dutch Customs and the State Symphonic Wind Orchestra of Baden-Württemberg (Germany).
In addition, he is a member of the Board of Directors of WASBE (World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles).
Björn Bus frequently collaborates with prominent national and international orchestras and is a sought-after guest conductor for ensembles such as the Royal Netherlands Army Band ‘Johan Willem Friso’, Banda Municipal Barcelona, Bavarian Police Symphonic Wind Orchestra and the ensembles of the Senzoku Gakuen College of Music in Tokyo. He is actively involved in leading conducting masterclasses and workshops, and is regularly invited to serve as an adjudicator at various international competitions.
Björn Bus has been Artistic Director of the Landesblasorchester Baden-Württemberg since 2014.
