In the first half of 2025, we have the special honor of performing Johan de Meij’s UFO Concerto with Bastien Baumet. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce Bastien:

Bastien Baumet, born in 1988, began his musical training at the age of six in the south of France. He obtained all his diplomas at the Nîmes Conservatory in 2003 at the age of 14 and at the Villeurbanne Conservatory in 2005 at the age of 16.

In 2006, at the age of 17, he was accepted into the prestigious Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique (CNSM) in Paris, where he unanimously won first prize in 2009.

He also won the European Competition for Young Soloists in Luxembourg in 2006.

As one of the founding members of the Paris Brass Band, Bastien Baumet was a soloist on the euphonium until 2022. During this time, the ensemble won the French national championship title several times (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018) and was runner-up in the European Championships in 2019.

Since 2006 he has performed regularly with renowned orchestras, including: Orchestre National de Lyon, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France, Orchestre de l’Opéra National de Paris, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse and the Orchestre National de France.

In 2007, Bastien won the competition for solo euphonium in the Orchestre de la Police Nationale (French National Police Orchestra), where he has been playing since 2008. Prior to that, he was already engaged in the orchestra of the navy in Brest and the air force orchestra in Paris.

In 2008 he won first prize at the international competition in Jeju (South Korea), one of the world’s most renowned euphonium competitions.

In June 2012 he was awarded the soloist prize at the Amboise Open Brass Band Competition.

He has been a professor at the CNSMD in Lyon since 2017. His award-winning CD productions and performances as a soloist with the Buffet Crampon Group have earned him an outstanding international reputation.
